A NOTE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
There’s been a lot happening at the Duluth Armory since I stepped into the Executive Director role in April, and I’m excited to welcome you back to our newsletter!
Over the past several months, we’ve been hard at work building the next chapter of the Armory, both inside this historic building and within our organization. We’ve welcomed new members to the AAMC team, watched as construction transforms the building, refreshed our Music Resource Center programming for fall, and continued moving this project forward.
As we look toward opening in fall 2027, our vision remains ambitious: to bring this historic building back to life as a vibrant hub for arts, music, entertainment, education, community gathering and creative entrepreneurship. A place that celebrates more than 100 years of history while creating new opportunities for artists, businesses, organizations and people throughout our region.
And there is so much more to come!
Meet our new team below, check out the latest construction progress, learn what’s happening with fall programming, and discover how you can get involved as we move from vision to reality.
We also want to bring you along for the journey. Follow AAMC on social media for construction updates, behind-the-scenes looks, Armory history, and plenty of sneak peeks along the way.
The momentum is building, and we’re excited about what’s ahead! Thank you for continuing to follow, support, and believe in the future of the Duluth Armory. We’re just getting started!

We have been hard at work this summer refreshing the Music Resource Center Programming. We will be hosting new clubs and expanding lesson offerings. Check it all out here.
For generations, the Duluth Armory has been an important part of our community's story. Today, the Armory Arts & Music Center (AAMC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is working to bring this historic landmark back to the heart of Duluth as a vibrant arts and cultural hub where artists can create, musicians can perform, and our community can come together.
Help us transform the Armory's historic legacy into a vibrant future for Duluth.
Are you a local business or organization looking to get involved with the Duluth Armory? We’d love to connect and explore ways we can collaborate - both now and in the future!
Reach out to us at JoinUs@dulutharmory.org. We’d be happy to show you around, share more about what we’re doing, and talk about how we can work together.
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate our Board Chair, Carolyn Sundquist, who has received the 2026 G. Bernard Callan Jr. Award for Outstanding Volunteer from the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions!
For more than 30 years, Carolyn has been a champion for historic preservation in Duluth and across Minnesota. Her work has helped save historic streets, buildings and landmarks, including a place especially close to all of us: the historic Duluth Armory. Carolyn was there when the Armory faced demolition, helping lead the effort to save the building and becoming a founding member of the Armory Arts & Music Center. Today, she continues that work as our Board Chair as we bring this incredible building back to life.
This national award recognizes exceptional volunteer service that has made a lasting contribution to historic preservation and community. We can’t think of anyone more deserving.
Congratulations, Carolyn! We are so grateful for your leadership, persistence and decades of commitment to Duluth.
